AIN'T COMPETITION WONDERFUL

Ok, I know someone is going to respond along the lines of  'stop rubbing it in, petrol here costs .....'.     But this is written from a Bay of Islands perspective.

Up until very recently it was de rigueur  when passing through Whangarei to fill up with petrol there.   Cheapest place in NZL (should be with Marsden Point in their backyard) and consistently 10c/litre cheaper than what we could get in Paihia.

Was in Whangarei last week and noticed the petrol price at $1.91.9 (this .9 thing is a joke) which was only 2c cheaper than Paihia ... wondered why.   The answer ... driving back from Kaitaia yesterday (where petrol was 2.02.9/litre) via the coast road through Cable Bay and Coopers Beach and passing through Waipapa (major retail development for Kerikeri located on the State Highway) and there, low and behold, was a brand new Gull petrol station dispensing product at 1.87.9/litre.

Yep, not everyone in Keri2 is going to drive 6k to save 5c and I'm certainly not going to make a special journey from Paihia to fill up but they have clearly forced the Caltex and BP outlets in Keri2 and the Caltex and Z outlets in Paihia to reduce their prices.

Competition is a wonderful thing.

p.s.  anyone contemplating a move up to our Paihia/Russell paradise and I can put them in  touch with a very good real estate agent.

'Basher Brown' Banned I Hope.

Not one to promote Bans  on this I willingly make an exception.

Before anyone forms an opinion on whether Chris "Basher" Brown is given an entry to this country please have a gander at the pics allegedly showing the results of his reward to Rhianna for whatever she did to upset him . They are on google but not available to republish.

Turiana Turei made a career out of advancing "Her People",  is now inexplicably advocating for this bit of Kuri Tutai to be admitted for a money making event on the spurious basis "He is one the young will listen to".
He hasn't bashed anyone for six years, Not necessarily  Aunty Turiana as you well know that claim may only indicate he hasn't been caught in six years.

Of course he could bring Mike 'Basher come Rapist' Tyson to head up his security, Bill drug rooter Cosby to arrange the off stage entertainment, then the promoters could approach the "Roast Busters" who are still free agents, as stage crew.

OK Little Big Man Woodhouse, here is an opportunity to actually do the right thing and make a meaningful statement in support of The White ribbon Campaign.

It is never OK to hit a partner for any reason and that wannabe is no  better than any other thug, just has more money than most.

Now That Is What We Pay You For Mr Key.

Making decisions, now can we expect the tales of woe and angst to be dismissed as they should  be, and quick smart would be great.

Yes there will be some who will screech and whine but to place the Kermadec Trench second only to the Marianna's and utilising the vast bit of the Pacific into a sanctuary is a real step up.

To the Nelson Tuna Boat skipper you are only being diverted there are still thousands of bloody square miles of Ocean remaining for you.

Pity we are so under prepared to police this reserve but our ocean surveillance is second to none and hopefully Uncle Sam will help out with some muscle, might pay to get regular ship visits back methinks.

New Zealand is uniquely placed to serve up this meaningful  environmental protection move with its very rare large sea area in relation to its land area with the Chathams, Auckland Is and the Kermadecs giving it some serious expanse.

That Mr Ms and Mrs Green is real Blue green in action while you and your numpty mates are tilting at windmills and boy have the odds for bloody wind turbines been falling lately.
How many actually knew that the life expectancy of your bog standard wind turbine is twenty years and replacement is more economical than rebuild so if the massive subsidies disappear there will be acres and hectares of rusting bird killers blighting the landscape, well  for ever really, as it is hard to see anyone clearing the multimillion dollar oops up. Certainly not a now bankrupt "alternative Energy provider".

All The Others Must Be Drongos

The Labour Trash Tabloid uses a Canterbury Universsity academic to delver its daily dose of anti-National rhetoric.

The guy was doing quite well until I got to this bit:-

"Dr Jarrod Gilbert is a sociologist at the University of Canterbury who specialises in research with practical applications."

Does he mean to imply that all other sociologists specialize in research with impractical applications?  I'm inclined to think he might be right on that count if nothing else.

One Week Ago And Little Has Changed.

We are both still somewhat traumatised.
We recently had a family group conference with both of us present and decided to close one of our joint accounts at the Bank, a situation that had evolved when,  because,  well, not sure now but as we  were not liable for any bank fees, sort of extravagance in a way.
Now for over 50 years we have had everything as Joint and it has worked out well but Swmbo's pension went to one joint a/c and Moi had his credited to the other and mine has all our APs on it so to close one it was clear to a blind man with a broken white cane it would be hers for sheer simplicity.

Then we only had to tell DSW to just do it in the very best Nike traditions. What could possibly go wrong?
Well plenty as it turned out.

As those close to us  know, Swmbo has Parkinson currently living with her, turned up nearly five years ago and although a bit of a druggie he has made minimal changes to our strong relationship or much of our lifestyle, so in all innocence and with Parky in tow, he is a persistent bastard,  we were at Eastgate Mall or Linwood for those who go back aways,  last Tuesday, and a local service centre was pointed out as having a DSW office, bloody marvellous, well no, not quite.

You see Swmbo has decided she would rather not be included in the address for service at our bank,  Parky being always contributing unwanted paranoia  to her life, so the bit of Paper stamped with the banks date stamp and the signature of our personal manager, containing the account we wanted closed and the one to remain, both clearly joint accounts with both names recorded had only my name at the top. That was when a frost descended, it was around 1430hrs, and we were treated with extreme sanction and prejudice at the hands of the tattooed pierced young woman who was never going to help us, I wonder if she had a finger on the alarm button all the time.
The scene was clearly a case of a domineering abusive old man taking clear advantage over the pension of a helpless lady, no other interpretation.
The fact that swmbo with her basic Judo skills could have me begging mercy in seconds may not be obvious but not even an offer to go to an interview station, or perhaps a separate interview for each of us to assess if she was indeed making a clear and reasonable choice of her own free will, nope!!
Just "leave" the only option on offer backed by the large security guard who had requested ID before we got in the door, another equally  intimidating man in close proximity, like well within earshot, while we were making our business request at the public counter and a third a female in security garb, also clearly not to be messed with, who opened the door for our exit.

Suddenly and without warning or previous we were just white trash and it is still a massive feeling of surprise, shock and bewilderment a week later.
OK so it was Linwood as another acquaintance pointed out, but Pope Frank On  A Tricycle  It was  Christchurch wasn't it
A week, in which the local heartland office here in paradise, also within the city limits,  with nary a security person in town has processed our request with no fuss and no drama,  has passed but that experience is still having an impact.

Please don't get me wrong here, I was as distressed as anyone when that nutter went Feral and killed those two ladies in the  Ashburton WINZ office but what we encountered at Linwood probably would only have included the security people as victims and done very little to mitigate damage if another nutter happened to go bad in a repeat or copycat effort.
I guess we were fortunate not to have been strip searched and had a body cavity examination right there at the counter.

The world is a changing and it sure aint for the better.

CYF needs a blood transfusion, relocation or possibly demolition.

Yes I rail at the destructive nature of welfare c2015 and I am not about to take even one small step back.
I have been castigated and reviled for my opinions but I have never seen a successful outcome from shooting messengers, hell even most states, open and benighted,  agree with "diplomatic privilege" that has its origins in antiquity, and accept that the reply properly delivered has a value that supports such protections.

Many good well intentioned people have toyed with various forms of welfare for those deemed less fortunate, whether their problems are in part or totally of their own making or plain misfortune.
Micky Savage became a revered and much loved Prime Minister by delivering rudimentary welfare largely in response to some extreme degradation as a result of The Great Depression which just like the 1914/18 war had nothing Great about it  but they still referred to it as The Great War.
Simple, basic and targeted at those in serious need and seen by both those who funded it and those who benefitted, as a Hand Up to a target of recovery and not as a lifestyle funded by a state with limited means.
Yes accepting welfare in any form in 1935 was humbling and a last resort and getting back into work was the only redemption.
Of course just as today, work had to be sought out and some of the tasks accepted with some alacrity were demeaning dirty and often required a significant uprooting to make happen. Alas c2015 there is no desire to move, only a welfare system rewarding proclivity to merely root and there are a myriad of anecdotal examples of too many children sired by  many different fathers.  Too often abandoned to the care (advisedly) of a feckless mother seemingly on the lookout for yet another useless male who then often abuses the spawn of a predecessor and quickly successfully plants his seed in fertile ground.

I am not advocating for "poor houses", orphanages or any other of the Dickensian solutions but with so many spending serious money to defeat the ravages of the body clock and equally suspect long term and as yet undiscovered natural responses to fertility control that often leave a woman in search of "a baby" to seek means of artificial embryo creation, we as a nation need to have a debate on the problem.
Who has children, who wants children, who is paying and what would be best for those littlies.

The problem  that emerges when one group produce children in numbers that any one can see will rapidly overcome the budget and another group who have the funding, the love and the lifestyle,  yet are crying out for a baby or two or even three.
Those of us who back in the day made  a rational decision to limit our fertility to two or three offspring  are now paying taxes to support casual breeders who have had too many false signals from well meaning dogooders and a welfare system that rewards such irresponsible social mores.
Someone I know well has advocated for many years  that all pubescent youth be sterilised and only released to breed when they can  "Pass the test", now even I find that just a wee bit too far but in the light of the provable chaotic social behaviours where rooting and responsibility are hopelessly compromised, society needs to find a new way.

The DPB was primarily targeted to provide  relief for a woman left to care for and raise the children of a husband who not only abdicated his vows but took the dosh to finance his next conquest, it was never intended as a financial reward system for fertile women to make an existence from having babies. Today we can have three generations of a family group all nursing babies in concert that only a moron would  accept as normal. That is how it was, long long ago before science, hygiene diet and shelter allowed for society to take steps to prevent pregnancy while indulging in the pleasure nature set up to provide for the future with young'uns.

My very best wishes Ms Tolley but there will be a massive shift in mindset required in the face of protests from the so called enlightened who have absolutely no understanding as to how the bills are paid and worse how destructive unlimited welfare delivers.
Sitting on  an ample posterior either in an ivory tower or a publically funded wankfest  they will wax lyrical on the rights of the creators while totally ignoring the rights of the funders and also presenting Nelson's Eye to what welfare has delivered, and continues to create.

The Hon Ms Anne Tolley has embarked on a process to re-evaluate CYF, remembering that it is largely helpless vulnerable children we are discussing, they do not vote,  they do nothing to create wealth to share but as a group they receive so much that could be better.
Back in the day childless couples adopted a child another could not support, and yes the Bethany solution was cruel and destructive to many yet there are many in my demographic who can see they received so much more from a couple who actually wanted them rather than that which would have in all likely hood been bloody awful and have condemned that child to a lesser life.
I have no truck with educated somebodies opposing adoption by some while accepting the handing of a first born to grandparents as is done in some traditional Polynesian societies. I am well aware of the pitfalls and there are many, most stemming from ill-advised withholding the truth from the adopted one.
One rather bad outcome I am very close to, occurred when the Caucasian Grands adopted their daughters child who only found out Uncle and Aunt were in truth, Mum and Dad, when he applied for work  and needed to produce  his birth certificate.
Otoh another delightful couple told their unrelated son and daughter very early and a more loving, settled and successful family you would travel far to find.

There really are answers out there but to rediscover them, some need to start by re-evaluating their values, opinions and beliefs because we all need to "think about the children".
Far too many of whom are getting a bum deal presently.

Step one Legislate, step two Ban, step three Hangon!

Back in the day a Captain Startup saw UFOs near Kaikoura from his Bristol  Freighter flight deck, turns out it was images of squid boats powerful lights reflecting from cloud cover.
Only that took some time to be revealed

Two days ago Captain Morgan (who writes these scripts), reported a "Drone" at six thousand feet near Kaiapoi on the Harewood flight path.

Today Slater does a credible job of casting serious doubt that Cap'n Morgan's claim had any credibility.

In the meantime anyone with time and an opinion variously called for action as such a threat to aviation must be nipped in the bud.

Ban Drones, screamed headlines. Ahem Drones are very sophisticated military unmanned aircraft that can fly many kilometres and accurately hit small targets, the toys and commercial radio controlled craft used for pleasure, observation and photography are battery powered in the main and
would struggle to reach the height claimed by Cap'n Morgan (I did  wonder  as I read that, was he wearing an eyepatch and talking pirate).
Oh and the military ones don't usually go high unless the terrain is high asl, as ground hugging is a best practice.

Anyway what exactly would any "Ban" achieve, Guns are banned from criminals who choose to employ them in criminal acts, but hang on they are banned and it don't work FFS whodathunkthat.
Any ban or other limiting legislated rule only applies to those with sufficient respect and agreement to comply and are therefore almost always ineffectual.

What happens to a "surf kite" when the 'rider' loses control, I would imagine in the light airs we have had lately 6000 ft would be reachable with the tow ropes for stability, even some kites can make some amazing flights when things are in favour.

So as a possible solution, have all our domestic aircraft carrying humans  immediately fitted with radar controlled missile defense to engage potential object that might collide with an aircraft and take it out.
Dangerous, stupid, idiotic you say,  what could possibly go wrong.
Makes as much sense as a bloody ban IMEHO.

RWC - BEST GAMES SO FAR

Without doubt ....

South Africa vs Japan
Italy vs Canada
England vs Wales

Any argument on that?

For my old mate Gravedodger ... Canty vs Taranaki today ... as an 'old' Hawera boy and all I can say say is 'eat your heart out'.

POT VS KETTLE

Check the headline here 'Prisoners Sacked from Unit after Home Brew found in Cells'.    Home brew in prisons!!!! ... quelle surprise.

But hold on, isn't Rimutaka Prison run by the Corrections Department?   How could this possibly happen then ... I mean they can't be the government version of that evil Serco ... can they?

Watch for Bevan Hamlin, head honcho of the Corrections Union call for a 10% pay increase as the answer to the problem.

LET'S HAVE AN HONEST CONVERSATION

The recently released report on children under care of Child Youth and Family (CYF) is damning.   Put simply, children in care continue to suffer abuse.   The stats are sobering.   For those children in care who were born in the twelve months to June 1991 and by the time they had reached age 21 almost 90% were on a benefit and over 25% were on a benefit with a child. 60% did not have NZEA Level 2; over 30% had a youth justice referral by age 18 while 20% had a custodial sentence and 40% a community sentence.

CYF has been under continual review and has been restructured 14 times since 2000 but nothing changes.   Children going into care are likely to emerge as 'damaged goods'.    This has to stop.

Clearly there is a foster-care industry out there that doesn't work and never has.   Of course there will be foster families that do a great job where the kids come first and are better for that but we are putting our heads in the sand when we fail to recognize that some so called 'care-givers' shouldn't be allowed near kids. And how about the canard that Maori and Pacifica kids can only be placed with Maori and Pacifica families?   Desirable, perhaps.   Essential, no.   More importantly, care-givers have to be properly resourced and rigorously monitored.   There has to be a paradigm shift in the way children in care are looked after.

The Government has signaled its intention to change the system through their Community Investment Strategy based on a preparedness to invest money up front to guard against problems further down the track.   It needs to because, as the CYF Report shows, the status quo is not acceptable.

One final point and given the fact that six out of ten children in care are Maori, it is time to call out all the crap we hear about 'a loving whanau'.   The reality is that for a significant minority of Maori families there is no love, only neglect and violence.

In the final analysis Maoridom needs to take ownership of the problem be it Hapu, Iwi or Whanau Ora navigator.   Whatever, the simple message must be that booze, baccy, drugs and the pokies must take a distant third place to looking after the kids.   And don't hand me any crap like 'colonial oppression' as an excuse.   I don't do Hone Harawira.

A VERY REAL WORRY

is the news that the Malaysian, US and Australian authorities have all issued warnings of a credible terrorist threat to tourists around the Jalan Alor (Alor Street) area in Bukit Bintang in central KL.   Jalan Alor is a very popular area for its range of food stalls.   It is very unusual for the authorities to be so specific in their warnings.

In recent months the Malaysian Police Special Branch have arrested a number of people suspected of planning terrorist attacks.   More disturbing is the fact that some of those were members of the Malaysian military.

All this comes against the background of general instability in Malaysian politics both within the governing coalition and the opposition.   Nijab Razak, the PM, is under sustained attack from within his own Party for corruption with former PM Mahithir Mohamad calling for his resignation.   So far Razak has responded in the time-honoured way by sacking his Deputy Prime Minister, his Attorney-General and four other ministers.    The Opposition too has its 'difficulties'.   In June the Patakan Rakyat (the grouping of three main opposition parties) fell apart over the call by one of its constituent parties (Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party - PAS) to enforce a form of Islamic law called 'hudud' in the northern east coast State of Kelantan which it governs.

Four days ago a new alliance was created led by Wan Azizah Ismail, wife of the former opposition leader (and Deputy Prime Minister) Anwar Ibrahim ... jailed yet again for sodomy in an ongoing saga that has split the nation.   The new alliance (called the Alliance of Hope) brings together three parties; Mr Anwar's People's Justice Party. the mainly ethnic Chinese Democratic Action Party (which grew out of Singapore's PAP) and the newly formed Parti Amanah Negara made up of defectors from PAS.

The jury is out on both the government and the opposition but political instability is the perfect breeding ground for home-grown Islamic terrorists.

Update ... the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Noor Rashid Ibrahim has just confirmed they have arrested a Malaysian, an Indonesian and a Syrian national in a raid carried out by the Special Branch's Counter-terrorism Division near Jalan Alor.   He said those arrested, one of whom had made frequent trips to Yeman, were believed to have been planning to launch terrorist attacks in public areas of interest to Malaysians and overseas nationals.

Of course some on the 'Left' would argue that NZL doesn't need either the SIS or the GCSB.

TINA As Prime Minister!

There Is No Alternative is bollocks and as a mantra will always end in tears.

TINA Savage became a legend and was saved from the inevitable by Herr Hitler then stomach cancer killed him before the infighting got him.
TINA Frazer was smashed by Holland.
TINA Holyoake left his transfer to Marshall too late.
TINA Nash was a bloody disaster.
TINA Kirk was cut down by death before his first term ended
TINA Muldoon ended in a drunken brain fart.
TINA Lange stopped for a cuppa tea.
TINA Bolger went Overseas.
TINA Shipley made TINA Clark look good, remember the old Kuia Jen kept close
TINA Key is losing his mojo.
There Is No Alternative is as useful and constructive as "Gee Didn't See That Coming".
TINA is no way forward as TINA can die or get rolled so  those who see the beginnings of the demise of John Key should at least have their fears acknowledged because the thousand cuts are not healing in spite of current polling.
Hardened old Nats are losing the ability to blindly support, too many are thinking 'why bother' as more examples of a regime in decline emerge and the one remaining positive is an opposition in disarray.

The fiasco that was the Northland by-election brought a ravaging drought to political stability, elevated The Possum  Head to a vote that had to be counted, gave the Apartheid party relevance beyond their numbers and the thought that a bunch of cretins under the leadership of an old "Last Hurrah"  pensioner with a penchant for a single malt and his obnoxious little prick  deputy, who has never bothered to correct the serious errors around his status as an equal to Willie Apiata, in a balance of power role,  has this fine nation of battlers facing a future as chaotic as Italy, post WW2.

Those of us chuckling or even mildly amused and gobsmacked at the charade of The West Island changing Prime Ministers as an almost annual event had better get used to electoral chaos.

Unless Key can begin to govern and by that I mean cease making policy based on a shilling media intent on his removal and a noisy otherwise totally ignorable minority who have embraced "Twitter" as a compass.
What this country is facing will make the last nearly three decades of Rhodesia/Zimbabwe look damned attractive. Even old Uncle Bob has some suggesting perhaps they needed some paler faced farmers to crank up the bread basket of Africa, only took 27 years to work that out, and some say a week is a long time in politics?

There Is Always An Alternative and last night we saw a reasonable effort from a future ALL Black Skipper, would have been nice though had McCaw left Cane to deal with the ref.
When Key goes, I would hope things will be better organised than when Hells tossed her toys. However I wont hold my breath, a small number of MPs who used to acknowledge my contact are now silent as I assume they know best and people who have been supportive and now might ask why, in  still equally well intentioned critical contact, leave one with a  feeling one should only attribute to lemmings.

The Flag debate.
Legislation around internet opinion that can easily be construed as 'bullying' when it is just a contrary view.
Suggesting worm farming is more dangerous than Friesian Bull farming.
A myriad of safety rules that over rule and abrogate personal responsibility.
Threatening to upgrade management failure as Manslaughter when much of the criminal code is predicated on "intent", a salient point that too often sees a murder pure and simple, made manslaughter, as in the bungled dairy robbery where a knife was carried into the crime scene.
Changing the legislated process by including a fifth flag option when an expert panel had done their job and been paid. Just because some 1.5% of the eligible voters made some noise.
Ignoring many well publicised serious incidents in State run Gaols while allowing less serious incidents at Serco to be employed as fodder by an inept Opposition.
Setting up a descendant of the Quigley "razor gang to review stupid ineffective rules that we all know will end with zero measureable  change.
Jumping up, "me too" over illegal immigrants when any thinking person with skin in the game understands many migrants such as Somalis will never integrate, embrace our values and way of life.
Trying to give Iraqi cowards some intestinal fortitude when their default is to cut, run and then try and change their spots.
Sucking up to the world champion beheaders who have again won the world series this time beating ISIS.
Stopping the long sales process ( years), of a chunk of short growing season, high fertilizer requirement land, no New Zealander wanted at any where near the negotiated price of 88 million, between the last fence successfully cleared and the finish line. Yes Bennet and Upston had that option but the downstream effects both domestic and international clearly were never the point, it was kneejerk reaction to Twitter and Media screeching.
And Freakin Pandering,  yes John Key made a credible defence of that in Question time but the headlines made copy in the mass media while a handful of tragics  who will never change their mind watched the lowest rating forum. Most voters have it firmly impressed in their feeble minds that "Key wants Pandas and it will cost millions".

Politics is perception and my perception is there are rotten spuds in the bag and unless they are sorted,  all will be rotten, sooner not later. Try growing a crop from rotten tubers, they will  not even sprout.

The Real Reason It Was Ugly.

The second half of the Namibia game some are suggesting indicates the ABs are in trouble took 51 minutes to deliver the scheduled 40 but worse that 51 long minutes only delivered  a paltry 12 minutes of action.
The modern All Blacks often make their win in the last 20 minutes of what is nearly two hours of a game and in the best traditions of the Titch tactics it comes from high paced relentless attack.
The answer as first developed by the Poms who havn't really overcome their feelings of dispossession,  is meetings to discuss a forming lineout, multiple srum resets, prolonged application of ice to a key player, confusion over who is actually on the paddock and now a facet  George Ayub has made an artform, the TMO.

How long did they spend searching for an accidental offside in that ruck? When the rules have no such offence as if there was there would be an accidental offside in almost every one.
How far back in the attack do they research looking for an infringement when they are only looking at the attack and just as our old "mate" Wayne did in Cardiff eight years ago totally ignore successive offending by those defending.

Of course the NZ team could not score points they were getting cold and starting to look for the final whistle while officials justified their attendance.

Good on Namibia, that was a well taken and executed try, their tactics limited the score but as a spectacle to advance the game in front of millions it was dead boring and could have been called off with a mercy rule at half time!

Nutters to Run Asylums, Arsonists to run Fire Brigades and Murderous Bastards to run the Human Rights UN Agency.

For more evidence the UN is "tits", look no further.

A country that has racked up over 135 executions so far in 2015 and I would suspect that will be a rather doubtful statistic, somewhat understated,  are currently advertising for an additional eight executioners to carry out the variety of grizzly ways to end the lives of those deemed to have caused offense to the State.
One youth convicted of joining a Shiite group during the "Arab Spring" was sentenced to be Crucified and beheaded, I have yet to work out which order that will occur but he had his sentence confirmed last week meaning he could be dispatched any day.

This country, an auspicious member of the UN has had it's Ambassador to Switzerland appointed to head a UN "Human Rights Committee" in Geneva.
Faisal bin Hassan Trad, representing the current world champion for Beheadings, beating ISIS into the Silver medal, is clearly the best man for the job. Too bad the half of the Saudi population were excluded before the finals because they had no penis and therefore apparently could not drive in for the interview.

As a callow youth who had avoided the killing zones of WW1 and WW2  but was constantly being reminded of  how those events just happened, WW1 because of a complicated series of treaties and diplomatic arrangements that led inexorably to a massive conflict very few wanted. Then recent history informed how in spite of the well intentioned but totally flawed "League of Nations" another greater conflagration erupted, I recall getting somewhat excited when the Brits and the French set out after Nasser while the great socialist experiment was forced to resort to soldiers, tanks and guns to remind the people of Hungary they needed help whether they wanted it or not.  As a third former wondering if the threatened next big show would last until I could get there.
However I had a great respect and expectation that the UN could ensure wars might just be consigned to History, How bloody naïve!

The same UN that is a totally discredited outfit that rivals welfare as a destructive force in the world today.

I understand that Saudi has enough money to turn its towel heads from the sands of the Arabian Peninsula into anything they might wish to be, but to suggest they can be diplomats, and world leaders in the fields of Human rights is an indictment on the Idiocy that the UN in all its naked inanity is no longer fit for purpose,  if it ever was, in truth.

God Speaks, due process can go to hell.

My patience is exhausted.

Another corporate logo is added to a process that took hours of legislation discourse dictated an "expert panel" would choose four finalists from forty options, now suddenly all that is of no moment with Mr Key adding the logo from some engineering firm in the midwest of the US ranked at number 36/40 by the expert bunch after a road trip.

How close is a uturn on the TPP, how is current polling going with that?
What do the small segment polled on our support for the fight against IS say?

How about disbanding the parliament and just poll a few on what next.

Jesus wept John, you are starting to look worse and worse, where did you leave your Nads.

"Key derangement" has been replaced with plain old deranged.

ON REFUGEES

Only the most insensitive among us can be unmoved by the 'refugee' crisis unfolding in middle Europe.   Have to say I am saddened by the stance taken by Whale-Oil and the like that NZL should turn a blind eye to what's happening.

We are making a modest contribution as a good global citizen alongside countries like America, the UK and Australia based on a realistic assessment of our ability to manage the additional numbers over and above our annual refugee quota.   I have no truck with opposition parties who are playing the 'my number is bigger than your number' game.  In truth, they are political grandstanding pure and simple.   But, that's politics and that's part of the game ... except it's not a game.   We are dealing with human beings.

Refugees fall into two categories.   Genuine refugees fleeing from war and oppression and economic refugees hoping for a better life.   There is crossover between the two.   The refugees we take must fall into the former category.   The latter take their chance under the mandate of the UNHCR and our quota system.   The trick is getting it right; distinguishing one from the other.   I wish the government well in doing that.

And to those who say no way chucky, I say learn compassion.

Here Is A thought John.

Stop talking such rubbish and listen up.
If the idiocy to spend millions to bring Pandas to Wellington Zoo is to assist in saving the endangered species then suggest the Chicoms to send a couple of breeding pairs to NZ sans the millions in graft demands and let a breeding program be attempted.

If it is all about sucking up or yet another diversion from real problems then let a commercial entity spend their money and see where that goes.

Then consider "Happy Feet" how did that end again?

Wellington brain farts are two a penny, it is the payments for the ultimate results that are so bloody expensive, so please do not encourage the insane in their pursuit of a yellow brick road.

LITTLE BEING LITTLE

The Pavlovian reaction by Labour's Little man to the notion that Government may entertain having builders (who meet strict Industry standards) self-certify their work is to be expected from a Party that views bureaucracy as the best thing since sliced bread.

No matter that the electrician who turned up to do some work at chez moi today was able to sign-off his work.    Clearly, in the brave new world of Labour, electricians are to be trusted and builders not.

Spot the inconsistency.

Don't call me Dave!

While many New Zealan citizens have a positive opinion of Lord Michael Ashroft as a result of his efforts around recovery of the Medals earned by Lt Charles Upham that included his rare VC and Bar stolen from the Waiouru War Museum, British PM  David Cameron will be regretting making the peer an enemy right now.

Lord Ashcroft, a former best mate and fellow Oxford student, has written a tawdry unofficial biography of Cameron that is to be seen as rather negative as far as his image is concerned.

Whether His Lordship has a reason or not,  DC's student activities, when viewed in the light of current mores and his exhaulted position,  make for a sad reflection on both men.

Some things are best left in the past as the only problem for Cameron c2015 would arise should he fall in love with a  lady with a very strongly embraced lslamic faith.

Put It Another Way

David Farrar reports:-

"Head of the PPTA, Angela Roberts, said it wanted Cambridge gone as it was undermining NCEA, and was calling for a ban."

Head of  Parents For Education, Bill Bloggs, said it wanted the PPTA gone as it was undermining education and he was calling for a ban."

(Note the illiterate reporter who wrote this piece for the Labour Trash Tabloid would have failed any Cambridge exam but would have flown through NCEA.  According to him/her/it, Cambridge was calling for a ban.)

QUITE BIZARRE

The quite bizarre antics of Jeremy Corbyn continue with the announcement of his appointment of Lord Watson, Barron Watson of Invergowrie, to his shadow front bench as part of Labour's Education team.

Bizarre in the sense that Watson,  a sometime MP and MSP, was convicted of arson back in 2005 and given a sixteen month jail sentence for trying to burn down Edinburgh's Prestonfield House Hotel which was in the process of hosting the Scottish Politician of the Year awards ceremony.

One has to wonder what expertise he brings to his portfolio ... Firelighting 101 and Arson 302 perhaps.   If it weren't so bizarre it would be quite funny.

Technology is not always better!

The referees sometimes appear fairer without the artificial aids.

The Fiji number nine, after ten minutes in the naughty chair, scored what seemed to real time, eyes only,  to have redeemed himself with a scintilating solo run through the English defence, and referee Peyper awarding a try.
Until that was, whe crowd, English in the main, roared, following a big screen replay revealed a seperation between hand and ball just prior to an otherwise legal grounding.
In the very complex and often mysterious many rules of Rugby, a player in general play can propel the ball forward meters but if control is regained without the ball touching the ground or another player there is no offence, yet in attempting that touchdown where it arguably did not move "forward", control was clearly regained to apply downward pressure. The brief seperation was caused by the flailing lower leg of the English "tackler".

In the noble game of cricket where back in the day it was considered the right thing for a batsman to 'walk',  any doubt in the umpires mind went in favour of the batsman, now with a fully tech review system, that the Indian Board is yet to embrace, the only remnant advantage for the batsman lies with the initial realtime opinion of the umpire that must be shown to be without doubt,  in error.

Back to the RWC and its embracing of technology that cost Fiji that try, at a time in the game when seven points to Fiji had a significant likelyhood of playing on the minds of the English players, there is no massive tech monitoring of one of the serious blights on the current game.
Offside plus the extremely difficult to police  but related,   forward passes.  Extremely common in scoring and defending both easily reviewable with an overhead camera and a travelling line moving concurrent with the ball movement.

FROM JOHN CLEESE

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorised from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.
The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.
The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France 's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.
Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."
The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and "Lose."
Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels ..
The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.
Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be right, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is cancelled." So far no situation has ever warranted use of the last final escalation level.

IN DEFENCE OF JEREMY CORBYN

Lets put to one side Jeremy Corbyn's Shadow Chancellor's grovelling apology for having opined that he would have liked to assassinate Margaret Thatcher and also for his 'bad choice of words' in calling for IRA terrorists to be honoured as heroes.

Lets not dwell on the fact that a whole raft of senior Labour MPs including Yvette Cooper, Liz Kendall, Chuka Umunna, Mary Creagh, Tristrim Hunt, Rachael Reeves, Chris Leslie, Jamie Reed, Emma Reynolds, Shabana Mahmood and Carolyn Flint have declined to serve in his shadow cabinet and let's ignore reports that the Tim Ferron, Leader of the Liberal-Democrats, has been contacted by text and phone from Labour MPs contemplating jumping ship.

No, I want to comment on the furor that erupted at the sight of Corbyn standing mute when the national anthem was sung at the remembrance service for the Battle of Britain pilots at St Pauls Cathedral on Tuesday.   His action (or lack of) was criticised from across the political spectrum with perhaps the most trenchant comment from the Labour Party Peer, Admiral Lord West of Spithead, who said "Singing the national anthem is a sign of loyalty to the United Kingdom and the British People.   I cannot believe that the people of our great nation could contemplate a Prime Minister who lacks that loyalty".

Jeremy Corbyn should stand true to his beliefs.   If he cannot bring himself to sing the national anthem then that should be that.   It would indeed be hypocritical if he should stand there mouthing the words if he did not mean them.     Corbyn is different.   He should be given the space to do things his way.   The electorate will judge accordingly.

One small word of advice for Corbyn.   It is disrespectful to turn up to a major event such as that in a mismatched suit and with the top button of your shirt undone.   You either show respect or you send someone else in your place.

Selling state assets v selling private assets

The Government was pretty quick to "flog off" shareholdings in the electricity companies and proudly announce it as good economics.  Hey, they needed the money for future investment, right?

Stevensons wanted to "flog off" its farms and release $88 million to for its own future investment, and to provide jobs and growth.

State asset sales = good.

Private asset sales = bad.

What's the difference between Labour and National again?  Oh, that's right, "the people are better!"

Better at what?  Confiscating private wealth it seems.

One Liner of the Year

From Cactus Kate over at Farrar's place, describing Trump:-

"so I think he’s just genuinely repulsive in a way that you would get in New Zealand if you crossed Bob Jones with Winston Peters if New Zealand had a Presidential race."

Poll Driven Fruitcakes, Another Howler!

After many months of Crats being Crats, two Sheila's, one who is talked about as a future of National, have vetoed the sale of Lochinver to the Chinese.

In spite of other legislated Crats having decided after a very full investigation in their little cratsville village hall to allow the sale to proceed.

Had it been the Canadian Pension fund, a European University, or a bloody Hollywood princess would this have been the same ruling.
Lets ask if Mr Key's bestie  golf buddy decided it was a good bolthole for when he leaves office would those two wannabees have said no

If I was at the point of sale for my little bit of paradise here in Akaroa only to have a couple of Nancys, who having had a poll suggest it was not politically advisable even though fully compliant with current law and due process,  step in and veto such a sale, I would be of a mind to seek damages.

If the two blouses made this decision without running it past the Meister, TUI anyone,  they should immediately arrange for their increasingly socialist administration to buy the farm at the price negotiated by the Asians.

When did NZ Inc decide we had sufficient overseas investment or is this decision just a disgraceful example of state Xenophobia.

Are we as a Nation open for investment or not, a totally ludicrous decision that could have serious downstream repercussions and another of the thousand cuts that will have Mr Key with much time for pondering where it all went wrong.

The Liberal Party

Tony Abbott has been removed and Malcolm Turnbull has been installed.

The cold hard politics of it all never gave Abbott a chance.  As well, he made some monumental stuff ups, none the least of which was the idiotic knighthood bestowed on Price Charles.  A good bloke destroyed by a relentless media beat up.

Turnbull has a big job ahead of him convincing conservative members of the Liberal Party to support him.  I have always regarded him with disdain but the fact is he is the leader and I am not about to undermine my party by commenting publicly in a derogatory way.  He's in the chair so let's see what he can do.  I might have something to say in three months or so.

Meanwhile, the ALP has a problem.  It and its acolytes at the ABC and Fairfax have invested all their effort in demonizing Tony Abbott.  Now he is gone, they find themselves in a vacuum.  Nobody to hate anymore.  They simply don't know what to do next.

If they continue to obstruct in the Senate I can see Turnbull pulling the trigger on a double dissolution and winning.

Oh the irony.

That Is The Measure Of The Man

Outgoing Prime Minister of Australia gives a last speech as the Federal PM.

He is the latest sitting Prime minister to be voted from office leaving the Lucky country with the reputation as the coup capital of the democratic world.

'Thank you for being here. This is not an easy day for many people in this building. Leadership changes are never easy for our country. My pledge today is to make this change as easy as I can.
'There will be no wrecking, no undermining, and no sniping. I've never leaked or backgrounded against anyone. And I certainly won't start now.
'Our country deserves better than that. I want our government and our country to succeed. I always have and I always will.
'I've consistently said in opposition and in government that being the Prime Minister is not an end in itself; it's about the people you serve.
'The great privilege that I have had is to see the wonder of this country like few others. And I want to thank the Australian people for giving me the honour to serve.
'Yes, this is a tough day, but when you join the game, you accept the rules.
'I've held true to what I've believed and I'm proud of what we've achieved over the past two years. 300,000 more people are in jobs.
'Labor's bad taxes are gone. We've signed Free Trade Agreements with our largest trading partners, with Japan, with Korea and with China. The biggest infrastructure program in our country's history is under way.
'A spotlight is being shone into the dark and corrupt corners of the union movement and Labor's party union business model.
'We've responded to the threats of terror and we've deployed to the other side of the world to bring our loved ones home.
'The boats have stopped and with the boats stopped, we've been better able to display our compassion to refugees.
'And despite hysterical and unprincipled opposition, we've made $50 billion of repairs to the budget. Of course, there's much that I had still wanted to do.
'Constitutional recognition of Indigenous people. Getting the kids to school, the adults to work and communities safe.
'I was the first Prime Minister to spend a week a year in remote Indigenous Australia. And I hope I'm not the last. Then there's the challenge of ice and domestic violence, yet to be addressed.
'Australia has a role to play in the struggles of the wider world. The cauldron of the Middle East. And security in the South China Sea and elsewhere.
'I fear that none of this will be helped if the leadership instability that's plagued other countries continues to taint us.
'But yes, I am proud of what the Abbott Government has achieved. We stayed focused despite the white-anting. Of course, the government wasn't perfect.
'We have been a government of men and women, not a government of Gods walking upon the earth.
'Few of us, after all, entirely measure up to expectations.
'The nature of politics has changed in the past decade. We have more polls and more commentary than ever before. Mostly sour, bitter, character assassination.
'Poll driven (politics) has produced a revolving door Prime Ministership which can't be good for our country. And a febrile media culture has developed that rewards treachery
'And if there's one piece of advice I can give to the media, it's this: refuse to print self-serving claims that the person making them won't put his or her name to.
'Refuse to connive at dishonour by acting as the assassin's knife. There are many to thank for the privilege of being Prime Minister.
'First and foremost, I thank my family for allowing me to be the absentee spouse and parent that politics entails. I thank Margie for her grace and dignity throughout my public life.
'I thank my party for the privilege of leading it. I thank the armed forces who are serving our country and defending our values, even as we speak.
'I thank my staff, who have been absolutely unceasing in their devotion to our party and our country, especially my Chief of Staff, who has been unfairly maligned by people who should've known better.
'Finally, I thank my country for the privilege of service. It is humbling to lose, but that does not compare to the honour of being asked to lead.
'In my maiden speech here in this Parliament, I quoted from the first Christian service ever preached here in Australia.
'The reverend Richard Johnson took as his text 'what shall I render unto the Lord for all his blessings to me?' At this, my final statement as Prime Minister, I say: I have rendered all and I am proud of my service.
'My love for this country is as strong as ever, and may God bless this great Commonwealth.
'Thank you.'

Tony Abbott delivers a valedictory in The Prime Ministers courtyard after his axing by 54 members of his Liberal Caucus.
That 54 included Bronwyn Bishop, Arthur Sinodinus and others who Abbott protected out of his default loyalty, often to his cost and ultimately his political execution..

History, sans the biased media crusade to unseat him will view his record a hell of a lot better than is current.

One of the more interesting prospects going forward will be how long the Malcy honeymoon will last before the rabid dogs remember he too is thwarting their beloved ALP at Federal level.

Amalgamation suffocates under vast heap of excrement!

Another legacy from Lying Len Pantsdown Brown.
A moronic ideology selected by thousands who pay no net taxes, miniscule rates and think anything they didn't directly pay for as a cost to their personal finances is "free".

Amalgamation Polls in Northland, Greater Wellington and now Hawkes Bay offering much needed administrative reform in efficient  financial and development local authority process have foundered on voter opinion seriously colored by what has emerged in Hide's Auckland effort.

Of course for that bold attempt to have delivered its logic based improvements to residents and more particularly  rate payers, through avoidance of duplication, competing for turf between neighbours and the regional body, and inherent idiocy from different rules on opposite sides of streets, it required a leadership that understood best commercial practice, prudence and differentiation between needs and wants.

We all know now that in the hands of a socialist who was well out of his depth in Manakau armed with an inevitable  philosophical mindset of 'more money and more people' as a valid solution to everything, the Auckland experiment  is seen by most as an abject failure. Hence any future for real progress in much needed reforms is denied any time soon so stop wasting money on destined to fail attempts put out as referenda.

Traffic chaos, a lurch back to nineteenth century rail based inefficiency,  exploded staffing and subsequent remuneration costs across all sectors and resulting rate increases  far in excess of inflation plus  rafts of other charges has all suggested images of amalgamation  delivering a better future firmly in the bedtime story genre. All that ignores the serious degradation in delivery of core services that are continually pruned or removed as money is diverted to legacy projects.

Thanks a bunch Lennie, (and your equally incompetent enablers serving as 'Councillors' at payrates they could otherwise only dream about), your exposed incompetence at anything approaching good local body governance without your clearly signalled narcissistic megalomaniac behaviours is impossible and ratepayers are now consigned to an unnecessary and ever growing  burden for ever.

Your legacy is in place but nothing even close to what your fevered shrunken brain might imagine it to be.
Hell those opposed to amalgamation for whatever reason do not even have to mention the Auckland fiasco, it is front and centre for too many voters nation wide and subsequently portrayed as overwhelming no votes to what pragmatic thinkers see as a viable and necessary way forward.

5 PMs in Five Years, No not Italy, Next Door

Bastardry is a part of politics.
The Liberals roll Tony Abbott two years after he led them to victory.
Abbott, a very successful opposition leader failed as government leader.

Children starting school in Australia have had five PMs in their short lives.

Shortonbrains is now never to be PM and he has one new problem.
No longer can he start every sentence with "Mr Rabbit".

John Key was held up as the way forward for the Turnbull era.

TIZ A SIGHT TO BEHOLD

The frenzy of adulation being heaped on Corbyn by his band of adoring acolytes following his election victory ... some of whom have clearly cum close to wetting themselves.    The new dawn is upon us ... 'Lets raise  the scarlet standard high, Within its shade we'll live and die, Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer, We'll keep the red flag flying here.

It is a truism that those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them ... and now Labour is committed to running, lemming like, in the wake of Wedgie Benn and Michael Foote ... no more of that dribble about elections being won in the middle.   Ideological purity first and foremost
and the masses are bound to follow ... Clause Four in practice if not in name ... 'To secure for the workers by hand or by brain the full fruits of their industry and the most equitable distribution thereof that may be possible by common ownership of the means of production, distribution and exchange, and the best obtainable system of popular administration and control of each industry or service'.

Hallelujah, rejoice, all is well, the lunatics now control the asylum.

Tom Watson, the new Deputy Leader, may well hold to the view that Britain should remain in NATO and retain it's nuclear deterrent.   More important for him, his boss doesn't.    Problem for Watson is that he's part of the 'A' team in name only.   The real movers and shakers and Corbyn confidants are the likes of John McDonnell, Corbyn's Campaign Manager, and now shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer ... the one and the same who told a Union gathering that he would like to go back to the 1980s and assassinate Margaret Thatcher.   The one and the same who said that IRA terrorists should be honoured for their part in the armed struggle.

By his friends you shall know him ... another inconvenient truth.

AND THE WINNER IS .... JEREMY CORBYN

achieved a resounding victory with close on 60% of the vote in the first round of voting.    Interesting to me and, unlike NZL, the breakdown of votes published on the British Labour Party website did not isolate out the MP vote.   That would have been instructive.   Corbyn just scraped up the 35 MPs required to nominate but a number of those said publicly that they had no intention of voting for him on the day ... they did it to make a contest.   Some contest ... act in haste, repent at leisure.

Corbyn's vistory has already been welcomed by the Communist Party of Britain here and by the hard left wing Morning Star newspaper (where Corbyn is a regular columnist) here.    His election has been endorsed by 'Red' Ken Livingston (ex Major of London) and by the utra maverick ex MP George Galloway, founder of the political party Respect, who said that he will now rejoin Labour.   Within the Parliamentary Labour Party reaction has been swift.    Yvette Cooper, one of the leadership contenders said she would not serve in a Corbyn shadow cabinet.   That mirrors the position of Tristram Hunt, Jamie Reed and Rachael Reeves and others who have signalled their intention to walk away from the shadow cabinet.    The fracturing has started.

Many moderates in the Labour Party view Corbyn with distaste.   He is not a team player.   Last time Labour was in power he voted against his Party a total of 238 times defying the whip (and sometimes a three-line whip). It will be interesting to see his reaction to those who do the same to him.

Corbyn attracts controversy.  He blames NATO for the Russian invasion of the Ukraine.   He wants out of NATO and for Britain to scrap its nuclear force.   He also supported the campaign to overturn the convictions of Jawad Botmeh and Santar Alami for their part in the planning to bomb the Israeli Embassy in London.   Their convictions were upheld by both the Court of Appeal and the European Court of Human Rights.   Corbyn introduced representatives of Hamas and Hezbolleh as "friends" at a parliamentary meeting.   He is a supporter of a united Ireland and voted against the Anglo-Irish Agreement.   He has proposed the segregation of males and females in railway carriages and argues for the end of tax free status for public schools.

I stand by my prediction that the big winner out of all of this will be the Liberal-Democrat Party which was almost on its deathbed following the general election.   They will be the welcome repository for disaffected Labour voters for whom a giant leap backwards into the future is not the answer.   Time will tell.

Todays Big Question! Which was An Act of God?

Nearly 5 years ago, just after noon, a "House of God" in the central square of an outpost of Christendom, that many if not most locals  never bother to attend, was rent asunder at a time when there could have been hundreds in danger of entombment at high season for tourists in February, yet amazingly not a single  Christian Muslim  or even atheist was harmed.

Yesterday we had reports of a massive Crane toppling onto The Grand Mosque in Mecca, killing many and damaging hundreds more,  at worship in the widely regarded heart of Islam, c2015, during 'Friday Prayers' at a time of the year many Muslims from around the world are completing their 'Pilgrimage to Mecca' for the 'Haj Festival'.

For me neither was an act of god, the first was as a result of easily explained geophysical phenomena where different lumps of the earths crust move suddenly causing massive tremors affecting buildings.
The second  we are told, involved  a crane subjected to wind forces clearly outside strengths planned for.
The Village of the damned event was just inexplicably timed with significant good luck while in the very heart of Islam and  for many, a catastrophe, was inestimable bad luck and timing.

What odds, many will suggest both were as a result of the bloody Jus  in some inexplicable logic.

Recent speculation has been apparent of the danger to the Hagia Sophia from earthquakes.
Currently a museum in Istanbul that began its life as a grand cathedral of Eastern Orthodox Christians at the time the Paedo Prophet was beginning his stone-age religion, one little changed in one and a half millennia..
When Constantinople fell to the Ottomans in 1453 things changed and Mehmet converted the magnificent Cathedral to a Mosque. Things changed again when the Ottomans were disbanded following WW1 and a secular Turkey under  Mustapha Kemel Ataturk developed the nation that has the old, since renamed city, into a modern democratic state and that wonder of the world was de-secularised with all religious activity banned in 1934.
I guess there is ample opportunity for some wayward skyfairy to do their worst with earthquake and cranes, then my original questions could rage all over again.

AND THE WINNER IS ...... LEE HSIENG LOONG (B-G TO SOME)

Singapore remains a special place for me having lived there for many years.
Sure, some may see it as a sterile, over regimented society, but those of us who remember vividly the Singapore of the 1960s and all its associated problems can but only marvel at its transformation into a modern, extremely wealthy, city state.

Singapore has been governed since its inception by the Peoples Action Party (PAP). Its main opposition is the Workers Party led by Low Tia Khiang.    The 2011 election saw the PAP share of the popular vote drop to a record low of 60% with opposition parties picking up a total of 10 seats in the 89 seat parliament.    There was speculation that this time round the opposition would increase their share of the vote against a backdrop of concern around transportation issues and the influx of foreign workers.

Yesterdays election saw the PAP achieve a crushing victory.   Its share of the vote increased by 10% to 70% and it won seats off the opposition.   The Singapore People's Party led by Chaim See Tong, the second largest opposition party, is now out of parliament altogether.

There is no doubt the 2011 election result caused the PAP considerable concern.    Over the last four years it made a concentrated effort to address identified issues.    Equally, their is no doubt the PAP benefited from the outpouring of grief and affection for the founding father of the PAP, Lee Kuan Yew (father of  B-G) who died earlier this year.    The opposition parties (there are seven of them) are generally fractured with the Workers Party the only credible opposition.    Its main problem is that its parliamentary presence is so small it cannot influence, in any meaningful way, the day to day operations of government.   Nevertheless, its presence ensures a semblance (and a semblance only) of parliamentary democracy.    Singapore remains effectively a one party state with the obvious caveat that this is is result of a FPP electoral system.

Some additional comment in no particular order of importance .

  • The deposit for a candidate wishing to contest the election is S14,500 (=NZ16,250).   In NZL the election deposit is $300.
  • Any political party fielding at least six candidates is entitled to broadcast air-time (TV and radio).   For the 2015 election the allocation was PAP, 13 minutes; Workers Party, 5.5 minutes; all other political parties combined, 18 minutes.
  • The day prior to polling day is designated a zero political activity day so as  to allow for a cooling off period prior to election day.
  • There is no political polling allowed prior to the election nor is there exit polling.
  • There were 2,304,331 votes cast = 93.56% turnout.   Voting is compulsory.  156,596 persons did not vote. I don't know the penalty for not voting but, dollars to donuts, there will be one.
  • Polls closed at 8.00 pm on Friday.    In a departure from the norm and in an attempt to quell speculation on election night, returning officers in each constituency were instructed to take a random sample of 100 votes, count them and advise the Elections Department of the result which was then released to the media.   What's interesting is that the sample vote results announced pretty much mirrored the final result.
I think Lee Kwan Yew, looking down, would have smiled that enigmatic smile.

Could The Islamaphobes Be Growing In Number.

Or is the truth about Abdullah Kurdi just being further exposed as each day passes?

The so called distraught father of "That Little Drowned Boy On A Turkish Beach" is being continually exposed as a People Smuggler.

A woman who claims she was a fare paying migrant on the ill-fated boat has surfaced in Iraq with a story she "paid"  Mr Kurdi $10 000  for her seat and he was at the helm of the boat when it set out and then a few minutes later capsized with its cargo of 12 souls.
So clearly losing ten grand is only a problem for some "refugees" or are they in truth as I suggested earlier and received a bit of slipper for my efforts, just economic migrants

If true then Mr Kurdi was being well rewarded to drive that boat so there is absolutely no mystery as to his sudden ability as a person fleeing the "war zone" to fly back to his Syrian border village with his gruesome baggage to bury his missus and two children.

I note the idiot enabling MSM is now fixated on the "Day Tripper"  who foot-tripped the migrant and all reference to the Kurdi family seems to have become too embarrassing and not such a great fit  to the narrative.

So will all those manipulative and manipulated lying bastards come out and say they were but pawns in Islams latest fraudulent rort, or will they be like poor pensioners ripped off by scammers and remain silent yet still condemned by emerging truth and therefore as the total idiots they always were.

Ingrates!

After a mardi gras that was probably largely funded by those they chose to denigrate the wannabees in fancy dress have bitten the hands that feed them.

A bunch of jumped up minor despots who would struggle to organise a piss up in a brewery,  want NZ and Aus to tank their economies that provide pretty much the entire economic inputs for  their beach resorts because some muppet who used to be a train driver thinks the world is gunna end.
Hang on wasn't supposed to have happened already.

Ungrateful small minded pretend local councillors masquerading as national leaders, here's an idea, lets cut out all the bloody aid you hoover up and syphon as much as you can to your superannuation funds and you can try the Chicoms as a personal money lender.
They dont burn any hydrocarbons now do they.

Then again they are creating islands in the South China Sea, that technology would surely make the atolls safe

Hells bells Wade Brown and Dalziel run bigger motors than most of these insignificant dreamers.

For the next Pacific Forum let the proposed host outfit beg for the funds to set up their glorified BBQ with a couple of cold ones, oh and some fancy coloured  poorly designed shirts and see who wants in.

AND THE WINNER IS ............... ?

The tolling of the midnight bell tomorrow (Saturday) will see the announcement of who is going to be the next leader of the British Labour Party.    Four contenders .... Jeremy Corbyn, Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall.

Corbyn is the darling of the hard left of the Labour Party while the other three represent the moderate centre and centre/right of the Party.     Clearly the Corbyn campaign has galvanized the left with opinion polls suggesting he is the clear favorite but whether he can gather the 50% support needed to win in a preferential voting system is a moot point.   For what it is worth I think Corbyn needs to win on the first ballot or poll in the very high 40s to stand a chance.    I don't see him as the second preference for too many of those who support the other three candidates.

Perhaps Lord E N with his extensive pedigree as a Fleet Street journo will 'educate' us with his take on likely winners and losers.

Do Not Include All who Choose To Be Free.

It is highly unlikely it was one of us Maree!

Dumped rubbish, like these empty bottles at Lake Selfe, is blighting the Coleridge lakes area, Selwyn-Waihora water zone commitee member Maree Goldring says.

Stuff has a beatup on lazy bastards leaving their garbage in, around and nearby, Canterbury High Country Lakes. Lake Self in particular but mentions other points of interest that gather many who stop for many and varied reasons.
Hell they might just be complying with the exhortations to "Take a Break", Don't Drive Tired", "pull over and have a rest" and other advisories from the Gestapo.
The  culprits could be cyclists, trampers, picnickers, gween party activists on remand, or any body really. However Ms Maree Goldring singles out Freedom Campers many of who would be very reluctant to leave even their exhaled CO2. Some of us are more than a bit tight with our treasured possessions.

If anybody sees a mobile home casting waste water- Black or Grey, litter, crap both organic and non organic, or in any way behaving irresponsibly and that vehicle carries a logo as below with a five digit number included in the logo,  the NZMCA would ask you to report it to their Head Office in Auckland.

Include any evidence as to where, time, date, pictures if possible and that membership can be cancelled along with all the considerable benefits our organisation of some nearly 30 000 enjoy.

The NZMCA is very aware of the social and corporate responsibility membership includes and any member bringing the association into disrepute is taken very seriously.

Members invest considerable money and time into preventing such behaviour and annually each of the areas, over 20 in number, spend a weekend if possible or at least a weekend day targeting an area of concern to us along with local bodies and individuals by cleaning up a mess be it a beach a river a layby or whatever, where the more able bodied of us do make a difference

WE do not condone or  accept the attitudes of those who visit and travel as budget travellers and are provided a hire van or a car with scarce room for a bed let alone a toilet, so Ms Maree Goldring of the Waihora-Selwyn Water Care Committee, be a little more specific in your generalisations over "Freedom Camping".

In return I will not include you in the army of shiney arsed seat warmers who spend their entire working day  thinking up ways to impinge on the democratic, social and lawful rights of the thousands of responsible people who choose to enjoy our beautiful country and leave only wheel marks, in certified self contained mobile homes that are carrying our membership logo, our individual membership number and a blue or green sticker on the right rear of our vehicle saying we keep our shit on board.

Perhaps you could assist us Ms Goldring, by seeking ways to provide coin operated household rubbish disposal options along with more dump stations for our members and the other large army of commercial hire vehicles that have joined the NZMCA  certification system whose vehicles display the compliant sticker on the Right rear of their hire vehicles. Btw they do not include most of the back packer specials that may have a porta potti on board but also have a refundable bonus to be repaid on return unused.

A War Zone, Rachel, Really?

At present the well recognised NZ contender for 'Blonde with smallest functioning (advisedly) brain', is in the nether regions of the Balkans searching for information as to what is really happening as thousands of mainly young educated men migrate to more user friendly welfare in northern Europe from  shitholes created by the more retarded wings of Islam.

This morning in contact with the KPMG sponsored hour at dawn, how long before those who enable that travesty to continue in total opposition to every thing that tower of capitalism represents, the 'bimbo' described that border area of Hungary as like a "war zone".
Now correct me if I am in error as I have never been anywhere near the chaos of incoming ordnance from people with a strong desire to intimidate or even kill me but based on my limited experience of delivering such destruction to training targets and killing vermin I think Rachel has in truth over egged things a tad to a point way beyond reality

With Hungarian police carrying batons and the ground littered with detritus from now moving on migrants her "war zone" might have had some similarities to the terraces of a football stadium after a big game, the muddy field after a washed out rock concert, Aotea Square after the "Occupy" sit in was depopulated  or even a street scene after a ban the bomb march, however a "war zone"?
What a stupid stupid immature inaccurate summation. How many shell holes filled with fetid water and various body bits, broken guns and vehicles in various degrees of destruction, a stench of dead and the screams of the dying, broken bodies dead and crawling to seek safety, total degradation of the landscape.
"A freakin war zone"  come on.

How anyone in Newstalk ZB can want such dribble to be taken seriously when the contender's miniature brain and matching intellect cloaked in an ego unmatched at present in NZ broadcast media is contributing such embellished exaggerations at what cost?

"when telling fibs keep it simple, don't over egg the pudding" seems much more appropriate.

To a regular listener, broadcasting such a seriously flawed and false portrayal of world events that are crying out for accurate "reporting"  revealing something much nearer the truth of what is happening, without  bias from a clearly held preconception of the more dramatic representations transmitted this morning will have me searching further afield for news.
