PETERS IS A TIRED EMBITTERED OLD MAN

Nothing sums up Winston Peters more than his less than dignified response to the the news that Bill English is to resign as leader of the National Party.    Compare that to the Prime Minister's generous comments in the House where she acknowledged the huge contribution BE has made to the country during his 27 years in Parliament.

Peters presents as a tired embittered old man totally incapable of rising to the occasion and that's how he will be remembered when he exits public life either by accident or design ... that and the stain he'll leave behind on his seat because he really does talk a lot of s**t.

This is Bill English's day and nothing Peters sez or does will detract from that.

This is Bill English's day ...

I think this is New Zealand's day, to see the backside of Double Dipton Bill.

It's also The National Party's day as they may be able to unearth a capable leader of "Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition". They could do worse than offer the job to The Right Honourable Winston Raymond Peters.

David confirms his status as a not particularly smart smartarse.

I thought to day's Herald headline was one of the most churlish I have ever seen.

"Bill English, The Leader Who Wasn't" In the article, Audrey Young went on to document Bill English's qualities of leadership and his achievements. The Herald must employ school children to write headlines.

For what its worth, I think Mr English was a loyal and faithful servant of his party. On balance he did a great job. The brains behind the Key phenomenon and then a flawless campaign resulting in an effective win, only to have the victory stolen by Peters.

His greatest achievement was to revolutionize the delivery of welfare by way of his 'investment approach' which has been looked on with envy and emulated by Australia and a number of other countries.

Who do I think the new leader will be? It will have to be someone ruthless, experienced and hard hitting. There's only one person - Judith Collins.

David ... on a day when Labour and the Greens were generous in their praise you align yourself with the Rt (dis) Hon Winston Peters. Sez much for you.

Peters ain't National, never was, sucked on Muldoon's teat and learned his interventionist policies from him. He is no more National than St Jacinda (who had better watch her back when the fox is let go in the hen house).

As your spiritual leader would say - Please explain.

TVNZ uses the terms 'stunning' and 'shock' to describe Bill English's announcement of his retirement.

Where have they been, these last few weeks? Too busy doing puff pieces on the PM's belly to notice all the strong indications that Mr English would step down?

With this standard of reporting, all I can say is first, God help NZ and second, sell the bloody network while somebody will still pay a dollar for it.

Sadly Adolf, any residual value as a public relations arm of the Socialists has gone into negative territory and with a second state propaganda outfit from the red radio stable about to muddy the waters who would buy it even at one dollar.
George Soros maybe?

English had to go. The 21% and 44% loser.

The arrogance and hubris exhibited by the National Party wizards-of-smart that decided they could nut-punch Winnie and govern alone (with AJ Rimmer in Epsom) with the super over payments leak was really dumb. Really dumb. Totally spiked the Nat's' chances of a 4th term.

I'd be inclined to give Collins a go. She's gone headlong into some dopey shit in the past (Oravida, Feeley) I know, but all other leadership contenders being touted today are dropkicks.

Wilbur I think your so called National drop kicks Adams, Bridges, Joyce, Kaye, Mitchell to name four are far superior talents to the failed drop kicks Goff, Cunliffe and Little that Labour put up after Clark ran away.

Note I excluded Shearer because he showed some ability before being shafted by Robertson and others.

Bill English WON the election, in case you didn't notice, but could not form a government.

The very best thing he ever did for the National Party was make sure there was no NZ First/ National coalition.

Wibur ... Peters wuz never going to go with National end of story and why would he ... National was never going to win a fifth term and going with Labour he at least stood a chance of feeding from the trough for a couple of terms. He had very few friends in National and NZF policy in many respecs mirrored Labour's.

His courting of the parties post the election was a sham. His mind was made up especially given that he and BE and David Carter are sworn enemies. His lack of taste in commenting on BE's departure is stark evidence of that.

Much like one's favourite team WON the final, but were not awarded the trophy, what with the dodgy ref and that bullshit about the other side having scored more points and shit...

That's a big part of Peters' popular appeal - he doesn't do the decent thing like Ardern and come up with some polite platitudes about the demise of an opponent, he says exactly what he thought of him. He has to be the least diplomatic foreign minister in the country's history.

For my part, I'm always glad to see one fewer conservative religious fundamentalist in Parliament, so this is great news. Hopefully, whoever comes in on the list doesn't share English's obnoxious, outdated religious opinions.

MMP is a rotten, undemocratic system that let Winston at seven percent, steal the win from English. Shameful. I would much rather have Bill's religion opinions than Ardern's emptiness and lack of substance, any day of the week (and it seemed the electorate preferred Bill too!). MMP - Mickey Mouse Politics, NZ, laughing stock.
All the best to Bill, an very decent guy and wonderful PM. NZ shines because of him.
Life can be cruel indeed.

Phsyco,
I am afraid that I have to disagree with your obnoxious comments about Bill English's values. I would replace then with his values epitomize his persona: a decent human being, one who believes in family and lives his life according to a doctrine that has evolved over centuries. This doctrine has been the cornerstone of our development as a collective society and is the reason that our country is not being subject to the horrors that are currently being inflicted on those who by accident of birth are living in the Middle East. The belief that Bill English has is definitely not obnoxious nor out dated and I would hope that our country continues to live under those rules.

Troll Adolf DLT, English's win was the same as Clinton's, but you never ran to her defence. Is that because Clinton has a cunt while English is a cunt?

Everywhere on Earth, except Planet Adolf, winning an election means forming a government.

Now WaiNews may have chosen words I would not, he does have a point. You cannot claim that English won the election on the basis that National received the greatest number of votes and also declare that Trump won when he won the fewest votes.

Consistency, Adolf. Consistency.
